Monique Amit

Monique Amit is a soprano studying Music Education and Vocal Performance at Old Dominion University. She currently sings for the Virginia Opera Chorus and the I. Sherman Greene Chorale of Norfolk.  ODU’s performance of Così Fan Tutte was her first operatic role where she played the lovely and wise Despina. She has been in many opera productions including Turandot, Romeo et Juliette, La Bohème, and The Worst One Ever. In In 2015, Monique was a part of the world premiere of Oscar Micheaux’s silent classic, “Within Our Gates” (1919), accompanied by a live performance of a contemporary film score composed by Adolphus Hailstork. The score was performed by The Harlem Quartet and the I. Sherman Greene Chorale under the direction of conductor Michael Morgan. Monique currently serves as secretary for ODU’s NAfME Chapter and plans to continue her education in vocal studies post graduation to enhance her career. She hopes to help change the lives of children everywhere through the power of music, love and compassion.
